A native of Wallingford, Connecticut, Mr. Peters received his B.S. from Central Connecticut State College and an MDiv. (Masters of Divinity) degree from the Andover Newton Theological School in Newton Centre (Boston), Massachusetts. Prior to being called to his present position, David had served at churches in Danbury, CT, Waltham, MA, and Glastonbury, CT.

David was named as one of the "Top 50 Most Influential People in Litchfield County" by Litchfield Magazine. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Ct Conference of the United Church of Christ, as a member of the Board of Directors for the United Church Board for World Ministries and as a staff member at the Silver Lake Conference Center. He is active in the community, serving on a number of boards and committees including the Roxbury Sr. Housing Board, as a CT-certified Emergency Medical Technician, serving as a crew member with Roxbury Ambulance, and on the regional substance abuse prevention council.  In 2022, David was honored with the Silver Lake Award which "recognizes someone whose life has been visibly shaped by the core values of Silver Lake Camp & Retreat Center and who, in turn, live their life and faith in a way that reflects the formative experiences they had at Silver lake."

He is married to Susan Zappulla-Peters, a pastry chef and native of Torrington, and they have two children, Kyla,  a graduate of Quinnipiac University with a degree in health sciences, living in CA, and Kirby, who has a degree in Agriculture from Cornell and now has returned to Roxbury to lease and run Maple Bank Farm.  David's interests include railroads, and being a handyman. He loves a challenge to fix something around the house!

On his days off during the tourist season, David can be found working as a train conductor on the Essex Steam Train and Riverboat in Essex, CT as he grew up in a railroad family and has a life-long passion for trains.
