British Theologian, Dean of the Chapel, and Scholar

to Speak at Roxbury Church

May 8th 5:30 p.m.

The Reverend Dr. Michael Banner will give a talk inspired by his latest book: Britain's Slavery Debt: Reparations Now! at the Roxbury Congregational Church on May 8th at 5:30 pm,  all are welcome.

The book is a concise, reasoned, and practical case for why Britain should pay reparations for historic wrongs to present Caribbean inhabitants.

Dr Banner argues that Britain owes reparations to the Caribbean. The exploitation of generations of those trafficked from Africa, or born into enslavement, to work the immensely profitable sugars plantations, enriched both British individuals and the British nation. Colonialism, even after emancipation, perpetuated the exploitation. The Caribbean still suffers, and Britain still benefits, from these historic wrongs.

The Reverend Dr. Michael Banner is Dean and Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge.  He has written extensively on contemporary Ethics and has served on a number of government committees and boards.  He is an engaging and provocative speaker who has frequently been featured on the BBC’s Thought for the Day. He is here as a guest of Roxbury residents, David Gartside and Archie Vats.

There will be a presentation by Rev. Dr. Banner in the Meetinghouse followed by a question-and-answer period.
